2021-22 MSc Application and Resources
Thank you for your interest in Alef Trust’s Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma and Master’s programmes. We are excited to welcome you into our learning community. The Alef Trust was established in 2012 to facilitate the delivery of high-quality global education programmes in areas we perceive to be of vital importance for human flourishing. Our learning community operates in the context of the profound interconnectedness of all systems—human, technological, ecological, planetary. Our programmes in Consciousness, Spirituality and Transpersonal Psychology are validated through a partnership with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) in the UK. Our relationship with LJMU goes back some 30 years, and it was at LJMU that I first pioneered attendance and distance-learning programmes in Transpersonal Psychology in the early 1990s.
We are acutely aware that the world is changing rapidly at this time. All of us are being impacted by the effects of the Covid-19 virus, and we recognize that your situation may have changed dramatically since you first expressed interest in joining our community. I believe that it is not simply a matter of a ‘foreign body’ invading us, as it were. The pandemic is a feature of the collective psyche, and we stand at a threshold: Our values, our aspirations, our global community will change—there can be little doubt about that. And I believe the change will be in line with a transpersonal vision, shifting humanity towards a new, post-materialist paradigm (whether or not most people understand this!).
Those in our Alef Trust community—students, alumni, and faculty—are very aware that we all have a wider role to play. We are using our online systems for collective healing meditations, for sharing, and for fostering those acts of love and kindness that shine through the darkness at this time. And the topics studied in our community have never been more relevant. Of course, those working in healthcare settings are in the frontline, and those working to develop vaccines are conducting vital research. But in our Alef Trust community we believe that sharing and enacting a vision that supports inquiry into the nature of consciousness and that honours our deeper interconnectedness with all ecosystems on earth is also vital at this time. And that means engaging with the research and scholarship that underpins how we evolve our collective governance, systems and practices.
I recognise that many of us are being forced to re-appraise what our true priorities are right now. For some of you that may mean putting your intention to apply to our MSc in Consciousness, Spirituality and Transpersonal Psychology on hold. For those of you who intend to follow-through and submit your application, please know that we wish to be sensitive to your circumstances. The Alef Trust is a non-profit Community Interest Company, and as such operates on small margins. Nevertheless, if your will to apply is strong, but the pandemic has influenced your financial circumstances, I would encourage you to send in the application, letting us know of your circumstances. If you meet our entry requirements, we will do whatever we can to facilitate your joining our community.
By accessing the links on the right hand side of this page, you will find more information about what studying with us is all about. But I wanted to put this response to the very real issues facing us all today up front in this letter. We look forward to receiving your application. I have no doubt that it will begin an exciting new phase in your personal and professional journey ….
And I wish health and blessings for you and your loved ones,
B Les Lancaster, PhD
Emeritus Professor of Transpersonal Psychology
Liverpool John Moores University, UK.

We come together with the aim of evolving our shared knowledge base and applying learning to enrich our personal lives. Successful applicants will become a part of this global community and we look forward to supporting you in your projects and seeing your vision flourish.
An immersive whole-person journey
By joining the MSc, you are making a three-year commitment to a rigorous academic and experiential programme, designed to challenge your thinking, as well as support your integrative development. Our programme offers an immersive and intensive learning journey that is designed to stretch you. You can expect to spend approximately 15 hours per week studying learning resources, partaking in webinars, communicating in forums, and preparing assignments. The programme structure ebbs and flows and it should be manageable alongside your other responsibilities. We will provide you with comprehensive schedule information, so you can plan ahead. Alongside reflecting on the time commitment, you should consider what support and self-care you have in place to enable you to successfully complete the programme. All students are allocated a personal tutor to assist them on the learning journey, and students are able to benefit from the Alef Trust’s Wellbeing Officer.
