Working in service of peace, sustainability & regeneration

Our Sustainability Statement

In 2015 the United Nations adopted the resolution ‘Transforming Our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.’ The resolution pledges to eradicate poverty and address global inequalities and injustices, leaving no-one behind. The plan consists of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which provide a shared blueprint for peace, prosperity, and sustainability for people and planet.

At Alef Trust we welcome the commitment to the SDGs to address the multi-facetted challenges of our time, whilst engaging in research and providing thought leadership and practice frameworks that will bring us into ever greater alignment with each other and all life on earth. We recognise that we are in a transitional age, moving towards a new, more holistic, and more regenerative paradigm that will require major changes from many of us, individually and collectively.

Recognising the value of the SDGs, we aim to make the deeper interconnections between the global challenges visible, tending to the whole in integrative and holistic ways. We agree that it is time to catalyse profound changes. And we understand that the path towards global transformation demands more than purely external, technical solutions. These have proven insufficient in addressing today’s complexities because they bypass the inner dimensions of the crises we have been experiencing.

At Alef Trust we embrace the position that our global challenges are deeply rooted in psychological, social and systemic fragmentation and dysfunctions. We know that we need to engage in inner development to heal these dysfunctions and to evolve our capacities to address world-wide insecurities and volatilities with greater emotional, relational, spiritual, and natural intelligence. As such, we align with initiatives like the Inner Development Goals, which seek to support human evolution through providing frameworks for catalysing inner individual and collective growth.

At Alef Trust our mission is to nurture humanity’s deep sense of interconnectedness with all life on earth. We foster inner development in service of outer transformation, by providing holistic learning and developmental programmes, and by building a global community of practitioners, researchers, educators and scholars.

Severe climate change, as well as biodiversity loss, pollution, and social inequalities are extremely urgent issues of our time, and we are committed to help address these challenges through transpersonal education, community development, and research. The term ‘transpersonal’ can be understood as encompassing frameworks and practices that move us from ‘ego to eco’, appreciating human nature as embedded in nature at large.

In our operations, we are working to minimise our emissions and energy impact. We work mostly online and we carry joint responsibility for minimising our own personal carbon emissions and for considering our individual life styles and life choices. We seek to do this together, empowering each other to make better choices in understanding and assessing our impact and cultivating greener ways of living.

In our educational programmes and research, we are committed to leveraging learning and inquiry processes to accelerate awareness of the latest research, frameworks and community practices to help evolve and promote solutions that create a healthy and thriving world for all. All our activities embrace integrative principles, championing multiple ways of knowing, fostering emotional, somatic, ecological, indigenous, and spiritual intelligences. We are also deeply committed to participatory forms of community engagement and governance, to integrate what has been marginalised in academia and research.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
