Tissot van Patot, K. (2025). Integrating intuition: A heuristic exploration of the emotional, intellectual, mental, physical, and spiritual domains of human intuition [Unpublished Master’s thesis]. Alef Trust & Liverpool John Moores University.

This dissertation explores how intuition is experienced and integrated across five domains of human life: emotional, intellectual, mental, physical, and spiritual. Defined as a form of direct, non-linear knowing beyond analytical reasoning, intuition is examined through a heuristic methodology that foregrounds the researcher’s lived experience alongside participant narratives. Seven purposefully selected participants engaged in semi-structured dynamic interviews, providing rich, reflective accounts of their intuition.Data was transcribed and analyzed through layered thematic coding, preserving the uniqueness of individual depictions while identifying shared patterns and unique aspects. Key findings suggest that intuition is not a fixed trait but a dynamic, context-sensitive process. Participants described intuition as embodied, emotionally resonant, and emerging most clearly in moments of decision-making, creativity, or personal insight. Integration across domains deepened their sense of meaning, coherence, and self-trust in their intuition. The researcher’s self-inquiry as part of personal transformation (in the context of burnout recovery) reflected the heuristic phases of immersion, illumination, and creative synthesis, allowing personal resonance and divergence to inform interpretation. This study contributes to a multidimensional understanding of intuition and underscores its value in therapeutic, educational, and personal development contexts and proposes a five-domain heuristic model to improve generalizability.
