Uluer, S. (2024). The role of mindful somatic practices, such as the body scan, among regular meditators in transpersonal coaching [Unpublished Master’s thesis]. Alef Trust & Liverpool John Moores University.

This qualitative phenomenological research aims to explore the role of mindful somatic practices, such as the body scan, among regular meditators who undergo transpersonal coaching. Ten participants provided insights into their lived experiences of the body scan within the context of transpersonal coaching sessions through in-depth semi-structured interviews. Existing research is focused on the body scan as part of a mindful meditation therapy but not contextualised as part of a transpersonal coaching framework. The core activity of transpersonal coaching is referred to as transitioning to a higher level of consciousness. While this coaching journey is a highly individual experience, the research reveals that the body scan is complementary to transpersonal coaching, and the practice enables transformational pathways, which is a core focus area of transpersonal coaching. The research identified further common themes across participants, highlighting the potential benefits of mind-body connection, emotional awareness, spiritual deepening and overall well-being. This research emphasises the need for further studies to understand the lived experiences of somatic practices and their broader significance within transpersonal coaching.
