Walters, Z. (2024). What are the perceptions of spirituality within Human Resource Management? An interpretative phenomenological study of HR professionals’ perspective on spirituality in the HR Management function [Unpublished Master’s thesis]. Alef Trust & Liverpool John Moores University.

This dissertation explores the perceptions of spirituality among HR professionals and its potential integration into Human Resource Management (HRM) practices. Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), this study examines individual HR professionals’ attitudes toward spirituality, discrepancies between personal attitudes and organisational roles, variance in understanding spirituality, readiness to integrate spiritual practices, and barriers to embedding spirituality into workplace practices. Key themes emerged, highlighting the potential of spirituality to imbue work with purpose and the linguistic barriers that complicate its acceptance within corporate environments. These findings highlight spirituality’s significant role in HR professionals’ lives and their challenges in integrating it into their work. This research underscores the need for a paradigm shift in HRM, advocating for integrating Transpersonal Psychology (TP) principles to catalyse profound organisational transformation and foster a more holistic approach to employee well- being and organisational health.
